On April 6, 2023, the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office filed formal charges against William Whitworth, 19, following an investigation into threats involving schools in Colorado Springs Academy District 20. 

Based on the investigation, William, who identifies as “Lilly”, was formally charged with the following offenses: 

 CRIMINAL ATTEMPT TO COMMIT MURDER IN THE FIRST DEGREE (2 COUNTS)

 CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

 MENACING

 INTERFERENCE WITH STAFF, FACULTY, OR STUDENTS OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS 

 The defendant has a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 3, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. in-person in Room A.

Bond is set at $75,000.

Questions regarding the defendant’s enrollment history with Academy District 20 should be addressed with Allison Cortez, Communications Director/Public Information Officer. However, all inquiries into the criminal case and court proceedings should be directed to the Office of the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. 

As a reminder, criminal charges are merely accusations against a defendant. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
