The Office of the District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District has filed charges against defendant Samuel Alvin Young, 23, of Wheat Ridge.
Young faces charges in a shooting incident on July 25, 2020, that took place on Interstate 225 near Alameda Avenue in Aurora. He is free on a $75,000 bond.
The charges are:

- • 4 counts of attempted first-degree murder (Class 2 felony)

- CRS 18-3-102(1)(a); 18-2-101 By engaging in conduct constituting a substantial step toward the commission of murder in the first degree, defendant unlawfully, feloniously, after deliberation, and with the intent to cause the death of a person other than himself, attempted to cause the death of four victims

- • 2 counts of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury (Class 3 felony)

- CRS 18-3-202(1)(a) Defendant, with intent to cause serious bodily injury to another person, unlawfully and feloniously caused serious bodily injury to two victims, by means of a deadly weapon, namely: handgun

- • 2 counts of first-degree assault – extreme indifference (Class 3 felony)
- CRS 18-3-202(1)(c) Defendant, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, unlawfully, feloniously, and knowingly engaged in conduct which created a grave risk of death to another, and thereby caused serious bodily injury to two victims
The presumptive sentencing range for each Class 2 felony charged in this case is 16-48 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections. The presumptive sentencing range for each Class 3 felony charged in this case is 10-32 years.
The case number is 2020CR1935. The next scheduled court appearance is Aug. 14 at 8:30 a.m. in Div. 302 of Arapahoe County District Court for an advisement hearing.
Criminal charges are merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
