A jury found a 54-year-old man guilty of robbing three metro-area banks in 2017.

An Arapahoe County District Court jury on June 20 found David Adebonojo guilty of all 17 felony charges against him, including seven counts of aggravated robbery, seven counts of menacing and three counts of theft.
“It appears that our community is safe from this career felon and serial bank robber only when he is incarcerated. He has earned another trip to prison, thanks to the tremendous teamwork with our law enforcement partners,” said District Attorney George Brauchler. “Working together, we solve more crimes, make better use of taxpayer resources and keep more criminals off the streets.”
On Aug. 23, 2017, Englewood Police responded to reports of a robbery in progress to the Compass Bank at 4600 S. Broadway. A responding officer was directed by a bystander to a man changing clothes in alley near the bank. The man matched the suspect’s description and was identified as David Adebonojo.
His backpack contained more than $10,000 cash stained by red dye-packs from the bank, a ski mask, and a BB gun resembling a 9mm Beretta handgun.
During an interview, Adebonojo told officers he did rob the bank in Englewood, and he eventually admitted robbing a Wells Fargo bank at 7375 West 52nd Avenue in Arvada on April 29, 2017. Surveillance video from that investigation showed the robber fleeing the scene on an RTD bus, after threatening bank employees while armed and wearing a mask. Once inside the banks, the defendant yelled to the employees and customers “this is a robbery” and ordered the tellers to hand over the bank’s money without any GPS trackers or dye-packs.
He was also connected to the aggravated robbery of the Key Bank at 2460 Baseline Road in Boulder on July 12, 2017. In each of the three bank robberies, the defendant used the same ski mask, BB gun, and backpack that was collected by Englewood Police.
Englewood Police worked with the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, Arvada Police, Boulder police, CU police and RTD to link Abebonojo to all three bank robberies.
“Years after serving sentences for four prior felonies, the masked defendant targeted innocent victims in our community, and cooperation between citizen witnesses and law enforcement finally put an end to his crime spree,” said Senior Deputy District Attorney Tom Byrnes, who prosecuted the case.
Sentencing is set for Sept. 23. The presumptive range is from 10 – 32 years in prison for each count of aggravated robbery.
