On Nov. 17, 2016, Colorado Parks and Wildlife received a citizen report of a suspected illegally harvested deer near the town of Elbert. A wildlife officer responded to the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Upon identification of a suspect, the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office and the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office were made aware that the primary suspect in the case was an Elbert County Sheriff’s Deputy and their assistance was requested in the investigation.

Through a multi-agency investigation and cooperative effort, the suspect is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges within the 18th Judicial District.

Steve Few moved to Colorado from Georgia and had been employed with the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office for approximately 2½ months at the time of the incident. Few resigned and is no longer associated with the Sheriff’s Office.

Although Few was arrested in Georgia on Dec. 20,, 2016, he bonded out and has not returned to Colorado for his court appearance. There is currently a nationwide warrant for Few’s arrest. Once captured, Few will be returned to Colorado to face charges.

Criminal charges are merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
