Welcome and thank you for your interest in an internship through the Diversion Counseling Program! We offer internship opportunities to students who are enrolled in a Masters-level, Mental Health Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy program. Applicants should be currently enrolled or, have completed a Practicum experience, working ongoingly with clients under supervision.
An internship through our office will help interns grow and develop their clinical skills, gain a thorough understanding of the application of theory and practice, and work with a professional staff holding diverse clinical backgrounds.
The Diversion Counseling Program is offered by the District Attorney as an alternative to court for some people who have been charged with low-level, first-time offenses. This program is voluntary for all participants and is not court mandated. Our clinical staff supports participants (clients) who have a therapeutic need. Following an orientation and onboarding, you will work with clients who present with a variety of therapeutic needs, including individual, couple, or family therapy. * Couples and family therapy may be provided by students who have completed coursework in systemic, couple, and family therapy.
If you are interested in applying, please note that we offer two entry points to our internship program, October (for January internship start – Spring semester) or July (for August internship start – Fall semester).
Prior to submitting your application, please read the documents attached, outlining the internship job description and the internship manual. Please note that this is an unpaid internship.
Application requirements are listed below and should be submitted to our Clinical Supervisor, Patti Diffee, LMFT at [email protected] After review, you will be notified if you are selected for an initial interview. We look forward to speaking with you!
